Apple iPhone 7 Plus rumors call for 3GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage and more

The latest rumored specs for the Apple iPhone 7  and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus come from China's Weibo micro-blogging site. This morning's gossip has the upcoming 5.5-inch phablet carrying 3GB of RAM, up from the 2GB employed on the Apple iPhone 6s and the Apple iPhone 6s Plus. The smaller Apple iPhone 7 will not get the bump, and will continue to utilize 2GB of RAM.

Another difference between the two models concerns internal storage. The iPhone 7 will be offered with 16GB/64GB/128GB of native memory, while the tiers available for the iPhone 7 Plus will be 32GB/128GB/256GB. The rear camera is another component heavy with speculation. Apple just gave the rear snapper on the Apple iPhone 6s a bump from 8MP to 12MP, and now there is talk of a 21MP snapper for the rear of the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7s, on the other hand, could come with a pair of 12MP shooters on back, with one offering optical zooming capabilities.

One area that iPhone fans would like to see improved in the new models is battery life. One rumor, not supported in any way by leaks we've seen, has Apple employing a Type-C USB Port on the new phones. Frankly, we can't see Apple giving up control of the Lightning port, especially if the 3.5mm earphone jack is removed as expected. We've already seen earphones leaked with the Lightning plug on the end. The argument for switching to Type-C is that it would allow Apple to offer fast charging capabilities, but this is not going to happen.

Other Weibo posts mention that Apple plans on improving Wi-Fi connectivity on this year's iPhone models so that the phones can provide faster internet and 4K video streaming. Wireless charging is also mentioned in this cornucopia of speculation. Our advice? All of these things are fun to think about, but for now we suggest taking them with a grain or three of salt.

iPhone 8 To Have Dual Curved Edge Displays

So far all signs are pointing to the fact that this year’s iPhone won’t exactly be the brand new refresh that we’ve come to expect, which is admittedly disappointing. However for those of you who can wait till 2017 or don’t mind shelling out for another iPhone in 2017, that is the year that supposedly brings the game changing iPhone we’ve been waiting for.

In fact according to IHS Technology’s director of market research Kevin Wang, he claims that a source has revealed to him that the 2017 iPhone is expected to feature dual curved displays on its sides, kind of like the Galaxy Note Edge series from Samsung. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors about a curved iPhone, although last we heard it was rumored for 2018 not 2017.

What we have heard about the iPhone 8 in 2017 is that it will sport an OLED display, an all-glass body, and an edgeless display (which we’re starting to wonder if it could mean curved displays). In any case given that this is just a rumor, do take it with a grain of salt for now, but as the market and technology matures, getting brand new and exciting features is harder to come by.
This is why there are also rumors that say that Apple might consider moving to a 3 year refresh cycle instead of an annual one that they’ve been doing for the past 9 years or so.

iPhone 7 Rumored To Come In Blue Could Be Dropped

If there is one thing about Apple’s iPhones is that for the most part, they are pretty stylish and offer up a sleek and simple design, versus other companies like Nokia who has in the past opted for bright and loud colors to distinguish their handsets from the competition. Apple has over the years introduced new color options, but has always kept silver and black/grey as the mainstay.

 

However a new and somewhat sketchy rumor has surfaced which suggests that Apple could be dropping space gray as a color option. Instead Apple is expected to introduce a blue finish as one of the color options for the upcoming iPhone 7. Now colorful Apple products aren’t new as evidenced in the iPod lineup, but a blue iPhone? That does seem a bit odd.

According to the rumor which has been translated from Chinese, “However, it seems a new deep blue color is added. Current Silver, Gold, joined by Deep Blue to Rose Gold, information sources that there is a high possibility that the space gray disappears says.” It could be that something was lost in translation, but Apple dropping space gray as a color option would no doubt be a huge change.
Hopefully that isn’t the case as there are probably plenty of iPhone owners who might prefer keeping things simple and basic, so do take it with a grain of salt for now.

Perhaps this is because the Windows Phone platform never really took off in a big way, or folks didn’t bother to upgrade their device to a newer model, who knows? It looks as though as of last week, it was the Lumia 520 that commanded up 12.9% of Windows Phone models that are being used worldwide at the moment. In second place at 11.7% would be the Microsoft Lumia 535, whereas the Microsoft Lumia 640 carries a 6.3% figure, with the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL being owned 3.3%.
